Each season Girls on the Run of Coastal Georgia identifies and selects a dynamic group of coaches to lead each of our teams of 6-20 girls. Coaches are parents, teachers, school administrators, college students and other community members who are committed to developing and celebrating our girls.

Head Coach Overview

The Head Coach is a volunteer position that works with a team of coaches to facilitate the Girls on the Run curriculum to program participants. This position entails approximately four hours per week for a 10-week commitment.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be CPR/AED/First Aid certified.
  • Must consent to and complete a background check.
  • Must attend ALL (twice weekly) program meetings.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a role model for our wonderful girls.
  • Prepare, organize and supervise weekly lessons (all materials provided).
  • Collaborate with assistant coaches for successful lesson delivery.
  • Facilitate communication with parents/guardians of program participants.
  • Participate in games and workouts with the girls.
  • Participate in the 5k Celebration Run.
  • Plan and coordinate your team's end of season party.

Assistant Coach Overview

The Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach in facilitating the Girls on the Run curriculum to program participants. This position entails approximately 1.5-3 hours per week for a 10-week commitment.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be CPR/AED/First Aid certified.
  • Must consent to and complete a background check.
  • Must attend GOTR coach training.
  • Must attend at least one program meeting per week.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a role model for our wonderful girls.
  • Assist with all aspects of the facilitation of weekly lessons.
  • Collaborate with other coaches for successful lesson delivery.
  • Participate in games and workouts with the girls.
  • Participate in the 5k Celebration Run.

Junior Coach/Helper Overview

The Junior Coach is a volunteer position for high school students to assist the Head and Assistant Coaches at a Girls on the Run program site. This position entails approximately 1.5-3 hours per week for a 10-week commitment.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be 16-18 years old.
  • Must be a high school student.
  • Must attend at least one program meeting per week.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a role model for our wonderful girls.
  • Assist with setting up and breaking down of games and lessons.
  • Provide one-on-one attention to program participants.
  • Participate in games and workouts with the girls.
  • Lead an activity with assistance and supervision of the Head Coach if desired.
  • Participate in the 5k Celebration Run.

Running Buddy Overview

The Running Buddy supports the Coaches in facilitating the Girls on the Run curriculum to program participants. This position entails committing to a minimum of 3 program meetings during the 10-week season.

 

REQUIREMENTS

• Must be at least 18 years old.

• Must consent to and complete a background check.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serve as a role model for our wonderful girls.

• Assist with all aspects of the facilitation of weekly lessons.

• Collaborate with Coaches for successful lesson delivery.

• Participate in games and workouts with the girls.

• Participate in the 5k Celebration Run.

WHEN AND WHERE IS COACH TRAINING?

There will be two coach training sessions and three CPR/AED/First Aid training sessions to choose from (listed below). Please select one of each within your application form. All trainings will be held at Mercer Auditorium in the Hoskins Building of the Mercer University School of Medicine, located at 1250 East 66th Street, Savannah, Ga 31401.

CAN I CHOOSE THE SITE WHERE I COACH?

Coaches may indicate a preference for the site at which they would like to coach. If coaches do not have a preference, they will be assigned to a location in need of volunteers.
